One caveat I just recently discovered: your event should always override Event’s clone method. If you don’t, you can’t do hacky stuff like this:

addEventListener(“type”, dispatchEvent);

with your custom events. This is because dispatchEvent calls clone() automatically, and so it will actually dispatch an Event not a CustomEvent, and your handlers will choke.
