Atari Greatest Hits Finally Coming to the Nintendo DS!!

I have been waiting for a good version of some Atari retro c classics to hit the DS for a while now. The old DS Atari pack is a pathetic POC, but this new one looks to make up for it and more!

This $29.99 pack has about 50 games included. There are both arcade classics as well as Atari 2600 favorites:

You can even play head to head via Wifi with other DS players in the same room.  Space Duel is one of my favorite games of all time, and I cannot wait to try it out on the DS.  I hope they make a 7800 + Atari 5200 + Atari XE pack next. Maybe they can follow that up with an Atari ST Pack, and then a Jaguar / Lynx Pack!!!

We are looking to get a copy to give away, so keep your fingers crossed that we do. We’ll probably have some sort of a micro-retro game development contest to pick the winner.

    Some of my 2600 favorites (on the list):
    Air-Sea Battle, Asteroids, Centipede, Dodge ’Em, and Missile Command.

    Some of my “other” favorites: :P
    Boxing, Breakout, Canyon Bomber, Carnival (man, this game be cheatin’), Combat, Fishing Derby (that shark was crazy!), Frogs and Flies, Joust, Maze Craze (VERY fun), Night Driver, Pac-Man, Robot Tank (another game that be cheatin’), Space Attack, Space Invaders, Tennis, Tron, Warlords, and Yars’ Revenge (another good one).

    I’ve never played Space Duel, though. (:
    My favorite game was Dark Cavern (especially playing this game when it was glitched).

    I got my HTML5 asteroids game running on my dev iPhone today. The only problem…controls! I have yet to figure a great way to control asteroids with no buttons. Maybe auto fire and mouse follow…?

    Interesting – I’d overlooked html5 potential for iphone. Perhaps as you say BlasterMines type controls would be good – or possibly allow the user to configure their chosen controls: something I think is missing from e.g. Flash games even now? For not much extra effort you can provide infinite configurability..
    Just a thought..
    Can’t wait to see those particles and explosions tearing around the place :D

    If you do choose Blaster Mines style: you’ll probably need some kind of screen wrap ‘intelliSense’ tm..? Like if you click the lower part of the screen – while moving up to the top – you wrap to the bottom of the screen…
