I’m a huge fan of Antic, The Atari Podcast from Randy Kindig, Kevin Savetz, and Brad Arnold. I’m especially fond of the interview episodes conducted by Kevin Savetz. The sheer volume of interviews they produce is astounding. Many of them are with fascinating yet curious bit-players in the history of The Atari 8-bit computers. Kevin has grown into quite good straight-man for some of the more interesting subjects, allowing them more “room” to flesh out their own back-stories while keeping them on-track. However, sometimes they produce an interview that transcends the medium with it’s sheer force of will. Their most recent interview, with “Wild” Bill Stealy co-founder Microprose software is one of those.
“Wild” bill is quite a character, and he come off larger=than-life in this interview. In 42 or so minutes you will instantly understand why Micropose was successful under the leadership of Mr. Stealy. and get an inside look at one of the world’s most celebrated game creators, Sid Meier.
If you are a fan of 80’s computer games, this is a “not be be missed” interview.
They recorded it for youtube.com as well as their int heir regular audio format. You can view that video below.
