    Dear 8bitrocket,
    Thank you for the Essential Guide to Flash Games. For what I want to do this book is perfect. As a Prolog programmer of many years (from Turbo to Visual 5.2) I have no trouble with the AS3 code. My problem is typical of a novice, just getting the development system up and running. I have installed FlashDevelop/FlexSDK on my machine, a new HP laptop running Windows 7. I tested it with an AS3 project ’Hello World’ program including graphics, and it executes just fine. Next I put in the Flex 3 project code from chapter 2 ’Creating an AS3 Game Framework‘. I click Test Movie, everything compiles without error and my flash player pops up showing a nice blue screen and that is all. I really like the incremental approach you use later on in the book. But there is so much code in chapter 2, and no incremental development, that I am at a loss as to where to even begin to look for the problem. Since the build is successful I suspect it may be the debugger. But I can’t seem to find ANY documentation on how to operate the flash debugger!
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

      Dear 8bitrocket,
      I got help from Philippe on the Flashdevelop forum, which was to right click on main.as, and pick ‘always compile’. That did the trick so that I could now get error messages. There is a lot of code that must be temporarily commented out,especially from GameFrameWork.as, for this chapter 2 StubGame to run, but I just got it going and I am really pleased. This is one great book.
